Number One Tip for Future Phocus Couples to Consider About The Wedding Day:

Try to take it all in because the day flies by so quickly! I remember standing there during the ceremony telling Tyler ‘soak it in,’ but even with that reminder, it still felt like it passed in the blink of an eye.

What moment were you most looking forward to seeing in the photos/video?

Wow, it’s so hard to choose—I’m excited for every moment! Of course, our recessional and kiss are up at the top of the list. But I’d say the first looks stand out the most. I had an idea of how everyone would react, but experiencing those moments in real life was something truly special. -Ashleigh

What moment were you most looking forward to seeing in the photos/video?

Definitely the first look. I was a bundle of nerves, and that moment felt like the turning point when everything started to get real. It was so nice to share that intimate moment, just the two of us, before the whirlwind began. -Tyler

How did you two meet? (Tell us all those little details!)

We first met in 9th grade back in 2004, and even after all these years, Tyler still loves to reminisce about that day—he remembers exactly what I was wearing and how he worked up the courage to ask me out. We started dating soon after and spent our high school years together. But like many young couples, life took us in different directions. In 2017, though, fate had a different plan. We reconnected, and it didn’t take long for us to realize that the connection we shared as teenagers had never really faded. Those years apart gave us the space to grow individually and learn more about ourselves, and it was during that time that we gained the perspective we needed. Coming back together after all that time apart made us realize that our story wasn’t over—it was just beginning. All the growth and change we experienced separately showed us that what we had was truly meant to be, and the timing was finally right for us.

Tell us about THE dress! What made you fall in love?

Honestly, I had another dress that had been at the top of my list for months. I went back for a second try-on, just to be sure it was really the one I wanted. While I still loved it, I was a bit bummed that it didn’t have the sparkle I remembered. Even though it was beautiful, something felt like it was missing. As luck would have it, the shop was having a trunk event that day, showcasing some new dresses, and I thought, “Why not try a few on?” That’s when I found the dress. It had the sparkle I’d been searching for and made me truly feel like a bride. The moment I put it on, I knew it was the one.

What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?

We’ve talked about this for years—if our wedding day ever came, there was no way we wouldn’t dance to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. I mean, how could we not? “We were just kids when we fell in love, not knowing what it was, I will not give you up this time…” It’s literally the perfect song for our story! But we wanted to not do the overplayed original, so we decided to change things up just a bit by going with the version featuring Beyoncé. It adds a beautiful balance to the song.

Describe what you felt when you saw your bride on your wedding day:

I was so happy! I had so much anxiety leading up to the moment, but seeing her made me feel so much more excited about everything. Ashleigh looked absolutely beautiful. -Tyler

Describe what you felt when you saw your groom on your wedding day:

Relief..and a little shock! Tyler doesn’t usually cry at the happy things, but he actually teared up! I had been feeling great all day, but the moment I put my dress on, all the anxiety hit me at once. It was like everything suddenly started moving so fast. But when I saw Tyler during our first look, just the two of us (and my bridesmaids all peeking out the window), it was exactly what I needed. Being able to have that private moment with him, share our nerves, and just breathe together made all the difference. It helped me relax and really take in the moment. -Ashleigh

What was the most emotional part of the day for you?

My first look with my dad was one of the most special moments of the day. We had talked about it for months, and he kept saying he was going to cry. My dad isn’t the type to cry—at all—but when the moment came, he did, and it was so sweet. Seeing him get emotional like that really made me feel so lucky to have him. It’s something I’ll cherish forever. -Ashleigh

What was the most emotional part of the day for you?

Once again, the first look stands out. Standing there, waiting for her to come out, only built up the nerves even more. I felt a whirlwind of emotions—anxious, nervous, and incredibly excited. It was a moment filled with anticipation, and I could hardly wait to see her. -Tyler

What is ONE moment of your day that you will always remember?

We hope to remember it all, or at least do our best to. There were so many amazing little moments throughout the day that felt incredibly special. Our friends and family truly helped create an overall wonderful wedding experience. One moment that stands out, though, was when Tyler was so eager to get it all over with that he blurted out “I do” before our officiant had even finished reading. It gave everyone a good laugh and was such a classic Tyler moment!

Favorite part of the Phocus Experience?

Honestly, the communication leading up to the day was incredible. Tim was always quick to reply, offered great guidance, and kept me on track when “wedding brain” kicked in and I lost track of everything I needed to do. He was a lifesaver! Our photographers were also amazing—they were so sweet and made sure to capture all the special moments throughout the day. We couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and attentive team to help make everything come together.

Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs Mertins!!
